FILMS SPOTLIGHT: DAY ONE

FILMS SPOTLIGHT: Day One

We open the Spring 2022 First Nations Film and Video Festival with a short film and a brand new feature film.

Strangers, DIRECTED BY: Adam Cordelle (MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians)
A young woman from the South deals with issues of cultural displacement and personal connection in New England.

Savage, DIRECTED BY: Juan Carlos Mege (Mapuche)
Antonio del Río, a Chilean mining engineer, falls seriously ill and to recover he must start a trip to the territory he planned to exploit. This fantastic film talks about the abuse that the land suffers in the name of development and how the Mapuche people recognize it as a living being that does not want to die. The protagonist’s disease is the disease of the earth, his body suffers the symptoms of the damage perpetrated. By understanding and living the Mapuche worldview, Antonio can save himself and the earth together with him.
